Course on Designing Games to Promote Net-savvy Citizenship

To support the exciting event 'Master Code 2018: Be a Smart eCitizen for 2030+', the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Playground Association, Hong Kong Education City (HKEdCity) and Microsoft Hong Kong jointly organise the 'Be a Net-savvy Citizen' Game Design Course on cyber wellness and basic game design skills for students. Participants will also learn collaborative problem solving (CPS) skills through designing games in small groups as preparation for the 'Master Code 2018' Competition.

This course consists of three workshops. Students who complete the entire course satisfactorily will be awarded a Certificate. An 'Outstanding Collaborative Stars’ Award will be given to recognize the team that best demonstrates outstanding achievement in game design through collaboration. During the course, students will also have an opportunity to do a collaborative problem solving assessment developed by the University of Melbourne and receive the assessment reports. The details of the course are:

1. Workshop on Cyber Wellness and Collaborative Game Design Skills

Target: Primary & Secondary School Students

Date: 20 July (Friday)

Time: 10am to 12noon

Venue: Room 101, Runme Shaw Building, The University of Hong Kong

Contents:

  • To understand the theme and details of the course
  • To understand cyber wellness and coping strategies for cyberbullying
  • To learn how to analyse cyber wellness-related data
  • To learn the CPS skills required in collaborative game design

2. Workshop on Game Design (I)

Target: Primary & Secondary School Students

Date: 27 July (Friday)

Time: 10am to 12noon

Venue: Room 101, Runme Shaw Building, The University of Hong Kong

Contents:

  • To understand the game design and development process
  • To learn how to create a storyline for games on cyber wellness
  • To learn how to develop a game prototype on cyber wellness

3. Workshop on Game Design (II)

Target: Primary & Secondary School Students

Date: 3 August (Friday)

Time: 10am to 12noon

Venue: Room 101, Runme Shaw Building, The University of Hong Kong

Contents:

  • To learn how to improve the developed cyber wellness game designs through peer review
  • To learn how to perform testing of the cyber wellness games
